World Overview
The Grid System
Darklordz uses a coordinate-based system to track your location:x
(horizontal), y
(vertical), and z
(depth or elevation).
- Most players begin at (0, 0, 0) – the center of the known world.
- Moving north increases your
y
, south decreases it. - Moving east increases your
x
, west decreases it. - Depth (
z
) is used for caves, dungeons, and towers. Negative numbers mean you’re underground.
Your coordinates appear subtly in the UI, but players can also use the look
or whereami
command to check their location manually.
Hand-Crafted vs Procedural Areas
There are two types of rooms in the world:
- Hand-Built Rooms: These are carefully written locations with unique stories, events, or encounters. Think cities, ruins, temples, or major NPC hubs.
- Procedural Wilderness: Most of the wild terrain like forests, fields, and mountains are generated dynamically as players explore. These rooms include randomized flavor text, weather, and events, but still tie into the world’s logic and ecosystem.
The further you stray from civilization, the wilder and more unpredictable your surroundings become.
Environments & Biomes
The world is not uniform. As you travel, you’ll cross through many different biomes, each with its own challenges, resources, and threats:
- Elderpine Forest – dense woods filled with ancient trees, hidden paths, and dangerous beasts.
- The Withered Steppe – dry grasslands scarred by war, scattered with bones and rusted weapons.
- Highrock Mountains – cold, jagged terrain with hidden caves and steep climbing routes.
- Sunken Mire – a rotting swamp where the ground shifts and whispers follow you.
- Coastal Wastes – wreckage-littered shores, often haunted by shipwreck spirits.
New biomes will be added over time as the world expands.
Safe Zones and Danger Levels
- Settlements and Towns are generally safe. Combat is restricted and NPC guards enforce peace.
- Wilderness Tiles can vary wildly. Some are calm; others spawn aggressive creatures or hostile characters.
- Dungeons and Ruins are high-risk, high-reward areas full of enemies and treasure.
- Some areas shift or decay over time, what was safe yesterday might not be tomorrow.
You’re never entirely safe. Stay alert, travel light, and prepare for the worst.
