Mounts & Travel

The world of Darklordz is vast, and your feet will only take you so far. Whether you’re racing to deliver a stolen satchel or escaping a troll-infested canyon, the right mount – or the right route – could be the difference between survival and a respawn.

Travel isn’t just fast-travel and map clicks. It’s dangerous, strategic, and part of the adventure.

Moving Through the World

The world uses x, y, z coordinates to track your position. Movement is handled through commands like:

  • north, south, east, west
  • up, down (for elevation: stairs, hills, caves)
  • sprint, sneak, or travel modifiers to change how you move

Each tile may contain hazards, enemies, or environmental effects, and travel speed can be affected by your stamina, weight, gear, or injuries.

Travel Time & Fatigue

You’re not teleporting – you’re walking, riding, or trudging through dangerous lands.

  • Movement consumes stamina, especially when encumbered or wounded.
  • Crossing certain terrain types (swamps, mountains, ruins) is slower and riskier.
  • Extended travel without rest increases fatigue, making you vulnerable or even causing collapse.

Resting in a safe room or using a camp item will let you recover.

Mounts

Mounts are more than just speed boosts – they’re companions, cargo carriers, and potential lifesavers.

🐎 Common Mount Types

  • Horse – Fast, reliable, decent carry weight. Prone to fear in combat.
  • Mule – Slower, but can carry large loads and doesn’t spook easily.
  • Direhound / Beast Mounts (rare) – Unusual, aggressive, sometimes fight alongside you.

Mounts may:

  • Be equipped with saddlebags for extra inventory.
  • Flee if not calmed or fed.
  • Be stolen or killed if left unprotected.
  • Respond to whistle commands (planned feature).

Each mount has its own stats (speed, loyalty, carry weight) and may require feeding or care.

Owning a Mount

You can find, tame, buy, or steal mounts.

  • Taming requires high Agility or special items.
  • Buying a mount requires gold and reputation at stables.
  • Stolen mounts are branded – some NPCs will recognize and react accordingly.

You can name your mount, store it in safe areas, or use it to flee quickly if things go bad.

Travel Dangers

The road is rarely safe.

  • Ambushes – Bandits, monsters, or rival players may block your path.
  • Random encounters – Weather, landslides, or magical storms can delay or injure you.
  • Corrupted zones – Areas that warp time, slow movement, or drain stamina.

Certain spells, skills, or NPC allies can help bypass these dangers… for a price.

Fast Travel (Future Consideration)

Eventually, players may unlock:

  • Waystones – Ancient teleport points, often hidden or broken until repaired.
  • Teleport Spells – High-cost magic that risks failure or misdirection.
  • Caravan Services – Paid NPC travel that’s faster, but vulnerable to raids.

Fast travel will always carry limitations, costs, or risks – walking remains the safest way to not lose your gear.

Travel Tips

  • Plan routes before leaving town. Wandering blind can be fatal.
  • Carry food and water, especially in wild zones.
  • Lighten your load before long trips.
  • Travel in groups if possible. Safety in numbers.
  • Mark your path (using chalk, magical markers, or dropped items) to avoid getting lost.
